With 6 Marseille citymakers we had a warm en inspiring Rotterdam bath last weekend. The second trip of our citizen twinning between Marseille and Rotterdam.
We crossed neighbourhoods, citymakers and their projects and we learned about our similarities and differences. And how we can learn from each other.
Where did we go and who did we meet?
We first went to Verhalenhuis Belvédère (story house), our partner with Els and Ellen in this citizen twinning, in the neighbourhood of Katendrecht where we reunited with our friends who visited Marseille in October 2017. Anja showed us around in the neighborhood, we met Lisette from Bakkerswerkplaats and we had the best authentic Chinese diner we ever had thanks to artist Fenmei. Ylaysa from Miss Mengelmoes challenged us to capture Rotterdam in film.
The next morning we met Arthur at Uit je Eigen Stad and Rechtstreex at Rotterdam Central station. We visited Leeszaal Rotterdam West with Joke and De Voedseltuin with Erik and Marion. We had a great “shadow theater” workshop at Formaat Werkplaats with Luc and Thamar. Our bike tour brought us to the neighborhood of Middelland where we visited Het Wijkpaleis with Floris and Marieke and we met Lot from the city of Rotterdam and matchmaker of the project Mooi, Mooier Middelland. Nico, Middellandman and storyteller closed our second day with lots of love and beauty.
Day 3 started with a free morning to explore Rotterdam. We went to Afrikaanderwijk market and catched up with the others at Tropicana, the old swimming pool where incubator Blue City is located. We passed stadskruidentuin Rotterdamse Munt and discovered Brienenoord island with Rineke, Franske and Sander from Buitenplaats Brienenoord.
The last morning we dived into the green corridor De Groene Connectie and had a look at Spoortuin and Pluktuin.
Thanks to all. From the Marseille team. Paola, Mélanie, Nathalie, Eddie, Dirk and Eddie.
